ARTIST STATEMENT:
The artist: Gary Word:
A recent group of canvases "nature series" represents the past 2
years of my study of nature. To walk and explore nature inspires
and compels me to seek out, discover the possibilities of the
unknown. Natural beauty inspires me to create a true passion,
striking the brush to the canvas with a pallet of vibrant color,
expressing a calm to the eye and at peace to the soul. Also I
include raw organic elements, materials that symbolize the
different forms that make up nature. Human awareness,
appreciation and respect of nature is essential for existence.
Being a northwest native and growing up in a country
environment, gave me a great appreciation for life and nature. I
started painting at age 9, supported by my family, perfecting my
natural ability to create, painting on canvas. Through the years
as an artist, I have since traveled the road of perfecting my
ability, rewarding at times, sometimes bumpy and challenging. I
have tapped in to my intuition, to shine the way for achievement
and success. Its measured in different ways, finding answers,
keeping my focus and stay confident and have perfected my skills
in creating and learning the art business. As results, I have
had many shows in the western US. The future looks good as I
strive and transcend myself to the next level. Through my art I
communicate a part of who I am as endless creative energy and
imagination.
Another media I also work in, art glass, which I started in
2001, producing fused glass art sculpture. Since that time I
have also had a growing interest take part in another media as a
producer in video film making. I'm currently working with local
graduates from The Seattle Art Institute on a documentary about
glass artist, titled: "day in the life of the artist". Its been
really rewarding in many ways to collaborate with such talent in
the community and to capture the process of glass art production
in the hot shop. A quote from another artist: "tap into your
inner creative side, which is in all people, you can find it,
art feeds the soul".
My goal is to keep my focus, to perfect my talent, create wonder
and imagination, acknowledge and respect, appreciate our
environment by being resourceful, capture a moment in time on
canvas, sharing that vision.
